| This workshop was held on March 22nd, 2008 at the Mendocino Art Center. Participants constructed altars out of wood panels to represent their experience with cancer. The collage altars were decorated with pictures and a variety of symbolic materials brought by Thais Mazur, who led the workshop. |
| Everyone was engrossed in their creative process. Observing one another's evolving projects stimulated conversation and inspired new ideas. |
| The group gathered together at the end of the workshop to share thoughts about their work. They described what their altar meant to them in the context of their experience with cancer. Many people expressed that this workshop was a real respite for them - they could take a break from thinking about their grief, cancer, and other experiences, and peacefully create. |
