Fort Bragg, CA, November 17, 2010 - The Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County recently received a $10,000 grant from the Safeway Foundation to further CRCMC’s innovative work in patient navigation for women diagnosed with breast cancer. An important role of patient navigation is to assure that any patient with a suspicious finding will receive timely diagnosis and treatment. CRCMC’s increased capacity made possible through the Safeway Foundation grant, will enable Patient Navigators to work more closely with primary care providers and breast cancer specialists in Mendocino and Lake County. Patient Navigators work directly with the patient as well as their families to overcome a variety of barriers they may face in seeking care in a complex health care system. CRCMC will also partner with local clinics and hospitals to promote breast cancer screening events and community education throughout the year
“Through the generosity of our employees and customers, Safeway is able to make a significant impact by funding programs focused on finding a cure for and raising awareness of breast cancer,” said Karl Schroeder, president, Northern California Division of Safeway.
Breast Cancer is one of the largest women’s health issues of our time, and the Safeway Foundation is determined to make a difference. Since 2001, the Safeway Foundation, has raised more than $80 million for detection and treatment of breast cancer.
