Barry Notmeyer is continuing the “Spoking Up About Cancer” bicycle ride he began in July 2002. The original ride, a one-man fundraiser for the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County, began in Port Hardy, British Columbia and ended four weeks &1300 miles later back in Mendocino. When Barry road home he was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd, many of whom had pledged dollars to the Cancer Resource Center in honor of his ride. |

This coming January, Barry will continue his journey while once again raising money for CRCMC. This leg of the ride will take him from the Pacific to the Atlantic, starting in San Diego, and riding east through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, ending 3000 miles later in St. Augustine, Florida. Notmeyer estimates it will take him eight weeks to complete the trip. (Follow his progress at: spokingup.biketravellers.com!)
Barry, 50 years old, is a log-truck driver for Anderson Logging, and has been a long time supporter of the Cancer Resource Center. He has had two hip replacements since his first benefit ride six and a half years ago, making this undertaking even more amazing. He is often seen riding his bike in the area, or parked in front of the post office, gathering pledges for CRCMC. One hundred percent of what he raises goes directly to the Cancer Resource Centers to continue providing services free of charge to anyone facing cancer in Mendocino County. Barry covers all of his own expenses.
| Barry Notmeyer can be reached by email at spokingup@gmail.com if you would like to pledge your support. He is also looking for introductions along the way in the nine states he will be riding through. For more information call the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino County at (707) 937-3833. |
